Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Keith Gordon

CBT, psychotherapy and hypnotherapy

IBS is a an exceptionally common ailment that detrimentally affects the lives of thousands of individuals - it is estimated that over 20% of the UK population are sufferers.

IBS sufferers typically need to know where toilets are en route for any journey, they will need to go to the toilet many times during the day.  IBS can be in the form of diarrhoea or constipation and will often be accompanied with extreme feelings of bloatedness. It is a bodily malfunction that severely restricts the sufferer from normal daily activities.

For over 20 years Professor Peter Whorwell, gastroenterologist at Wythenshawe hospital in Manchester has been instrumental in working with chronic IBS sufferers using hypnosis.

In my practice I use the same methodology and have been able to demonstrate on all of my IBS patients that the unconscious mind can learn to reprocess the way it thinks, and therefore take back normal control over bowel functions.

For this particular ailment treatment repetition is essential, so in addition to the face to face (or Skype) sessions I also provide clients with a cd or mp3 file so that they can have the treatment reinforced on a daily basis. Typically 6 sessions will provide the sufferer with a dramatic reduction in the symptoms.

“There is  a significant link between the brain and gut impulses. This is know as the brain-gut axis...
Some patients have gut problems that are not caused by a gut illness at all, but are a physical manifestation of their anxiety’.
